SAGITTARIUS RELATIONSHIPS

SAGITTARIUS PARTNER
Sagittarians are the free spirits of the Zodiac and they demand freedom in their relationships. They become restless, resentful and claustrophobic with a partner who is possessive or suspicious, or who they feel is inhibiting their independence.

Sexual attraction is an important ingredient in any Sagittarius partnership. In fact, Sagittarians frequently end up in unsatisfactory relationships because they have allowed sex to be the main attraction. In reality, they need a partner who will be their best friend as well as their lover. They are ingenuous and trusting, and maintain their youthful enthusiasms for life.

Sagittarians have a habit of putting their feet in their mouths when they speak. They are liable to insult when intending to flatter and to antagonise when attempting to befriend. They need a partner who is understanding, thick-skinned, able to laugh at themselves and who is, preferably, in possession of the telepathic skills necessary to uncover their loved one’s true intentions.

Sagittarius man is trusting, fun to be with, and often exhausting. He takes life at a gallop and expects his partner to keep up with him. His ideal soulmate is good-looking, cooperative, energetic – and prepared to let him have the final say. Sagittarius woman is honest, optimistic, frank and fearless. She has a tendency towards extravagance, having little interest in money apart from what it can buy. Sagittarians tend to handle their finances on the basis of ‘what I spend, God will send’ – and, remarkably, it frequently turns out to be the case.

SAGITTARIUS PARENT
Sagittarius parents are warm, funny and loving. They treat their children as equals, take them on spontaneous jaunts and regard them as close friends. They believe in sparing the rod and have grand theories on child-rearing. In practice, they take their youngsters to exotic places for their holidays, buy them extravagant and imaginative presents and throw wonderful offbeat parties for them.

Sagittarius mother encourages her offspring to be independent and to formulate their own philosophies about life. She answers their questions frankly – sometimes a little too frankly for more conventional tastes. She invents games and activities to keep them amused and re-creates for them the fantasy world which she enjoyed as a child and, to an extent, still subconsciously believes in. She does, however, need her own project or career to occupy her mind in order to avoid feeling trapped or tied down by her family.

Sagittarius father is tolerant of his children’s misdemeanors. He plays football and tennis with them and enjoys his sons more when they are older and he and they can be boys together. He encourages them to be freethinkers and nonconformists but can get impatient if they are slow to learn or master some new theory or technique.

Sagittarius parents are great fun, although they can, at times, embarrass their offspring by being unwittingly indiscreet. Their children tend to mature early and achieve their own independence sooner than other youngsters.

SAGITTARIUS CHILD
Sagittarius children are happy-go-lucky, honest, trusting, self-confident and liable to believe in Santa Clause for far longer than other children. As small babies they need companionship and will sleep or play more happily in a room where there are other human beings.

As they grow older, their natural independence begins to show. They are curious, adventurous, and daring to the point of recklessness. They will do what they are told only if they are given what they consider to be a satisfactory reason. They ask endless questions and demand honest and in-depth replies.

Sagittarius youngsters tend to be clumsy. They tear clothes, ligaments and heartstrings. They need parents who allow them their freedom or as soon as they are old enough to grab it, they are likely to do so with a vengeance by leaving home.

They enjoy school, provided they have interesting and stimulating teachers to hold their attention. Otherwise they become restless and bored. They are unlikely to accept established views or entrenched attitudes. They need causes to believe in and challenges to overcome. They may be drawn to religious beliefs and will certainly have an urge to travel. They invent great games to play and attract lively friends who tend to be both clever and funny.

Understanding Astrology

History : People had begun to look at the stars for guidance as long as 8000 B.C. Astrologers were employed by the Assyrians, Babylonians, Egyptians, and Mayans to observe, record and predict the positions of stars and events which were believed to be important for their survival and prosperity. The mathematician Ptolemy wrote the first known text book on astrology while he was working in Egypt between A.D. 150 and 180. The Greeks furthered the spread of astrlogy, introducing it to India and later, to the Arab world. The word planet comes from the Greek Planetes, meaning wanderer ; the word horoscope comes from two Greek words, horos meaning time and skopos meaning observer.

Astrology was considered synonymus with astronomy until the seventeenth century ; then, during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, research into this area of divination declined. Twentieth-cetury research sometimes supports astrological theories and sometimes condemns them. There is, however, continued interest in this method of divination.

Modern Methods : Modern birth charts are similar to the charts used by the Greeks during the first and second centuries A.D. Today , however, astrology is used more to assess character and potential than to predict future events. Analytical psychology is used to predict future events. Analytical psychology is used in addition to ancient mythology for the interpretationof charts.

Equipment : Information provided here will enable you to understand different aspects of the birth chart. Birth charts themselves are best constructed by professional astrologers, asthey require the use of detailed and often very complex astronomical data.

Important Conventions usd in Astrology

The earth is seen to be at the center of the universe.
The Sun and Moon are referred as planets. There are therefore ten astrological planets that appear to move around the Earth.
Each of the ten planets is thought to influence the lives of people on Earth.
How the planets influence us is determined by the signs of the zodiac, of which there are twelve, each based on a constellation of stars.
In order to assess character and determine future events, astrologists construct horoscopes or birth charts, symbolic maps of the sky that reflect the time and place on Earth that a person was born.
symbols are commonly used to represent the planets and signs of the zodiac. These are illustrated in separate chart.

Parts of the Birth Chart : A birth chart consists of a circle ( representing the Earth) surrounded by another, larger circle, that is divided into 12 sections called " houses ". The relative positions of the planets are written inside the house segments ( using symbols ) and the signs of the zodiac appear around the edge of the birth chart ( also as a symbols), always in the same order. A horizontal line runs accross the chart and is called a cusp. This cusp is always in the ascendent position, the position of the Sun as it rose on the eastern horizon on the date of birth. The cusp of a sign or house marks its starting point.Another cusp is included that indiactes the position of the Sun at noon on the date of birth. It is represented by the letters MC, standing for the Latin , medium coeli, meaning midheaven. South is always placed at the top of the chart . This means that the sun-sign for a person born during the day will be in upper half of the chart. If the time of birth is not known, the sun is placed in the midheaven position and the houses omitted. note that the cusps for th first, important and are indicated by double lines.

Finding your Sun Sign

You can find your sun sign by using the chart on the next few pages, providing you have your date of birth. Note, however, that the sun enters and leaves signs on slightly different dates in some years. So if you are born on or near a cusp of a sign, you will need to check a more detailed table of sun sign changes.

Overview of the Planets

One of the components inherentto birth chart reading is the significance and influence of the planets. These are usually listed in a traditional order of importance, starting with the sun, and are considered as they appear in the different zodiac signs and houses.

Planets reflecting the life cycle

A person's essential nature is symbolized by the positions of the Sun, Moon, and ascedant, each of which is related to different aspect of a person's life cycle. the acendant represents the future outlook, the Moon reflects moods to which we have become conditoned in the past, and the Sun represents personality in the present. It is said that the Sun and Moon dominate the chart during the earlier part of life, as the Sun attempts to express itself and come to terms with the Moon's influence. The ascedant symbolises the outlook of a person and influences physical appearance. It is important because it is the leader of the succession of signs and houses around the chart. It shares the same potentials as the Sun, and so the same interpretations apply. It may be in any one of the zodiac signs but is always on the cusp of the firts house.

Personal Planets

The Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars move quickly through the signs. The Moon remains in a sign for only about two days; Mars may stay in a sign for two months. These planets symbolise individual resources and are regarded as personal planets.

Generation Planets

These are Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. They represent collective resources and move very slowly. Uranus takes about seven years to move through a sign; Neptune takes about 14 years; Pluto takes 13 - 32 years. They show how people are likely to respond to larger social issue.

Planets : Areas of influence

By locating the position of a planet on a birth chart it is possible to answer "what ?" questions. For example, each planet has an area of influence. In order to determine what moods a person might experience, it is necessary to find the location of the Moon; in order to determine what responsibilities are likely, Saturn must be located; to find out what changes are likely, find Uranus, etc.

Vedic Astrology

In astrology, luck is preordained, simply put, some people are just born lucky. Of course, to believe, or not believe in astrology is the prerogative of every thinking individual and just as in the case of other disciplines, in astrology too, there are those practitioners who are proficient in their area of expertise and those that need to hone their skills.

‘Reincarnation’ is a principle that is fundamental to Hinduism. According to this belief, the course of any individual’s life, is the sum total of that person’s ‘Karma’, from previous births. All mortals must therefore follow the cycle of birth and rebirth, till a stage of, ‘Atam Gyan’, or enlightenment is reached. As a result of this cycle, the birth chart that one inherits is considered to be the resultant of one’s actions from previous lives. Therefore, in astrology, a horoscope is considered to be a map, which identifies positive elements one can take advantage of to attract those golden opportunities people call good luck.

Although, there are several forms of astrology, the predominantly practiced forms are, as Western Astrology, Vedic Astrology or 'Jyotish' and Chinese Astrology, as a search on any Internet Search Engine will reveal. Most people still think that astrology is all about – your Sun Sign, however, true astrology is not what you see in newspapers and magazines, as these readings are generic and are too general in nature to be of any purposeful value.

Vedic astrology is defined as a mathematical study of the motion of the planets and constellations, for the purpose of drawing a horoscope. Analysing the positions and characteristics of the planets in a particular horoscope, allows astrological predictions, of future events to be made. Vedic and Western astrologies share most of their basic concepts, such as the signs, planets, and houses, as well as their general interpretive meanings. The fundamental difference between the two lies the measurement of the zodiac. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, in which the stars are considered to be the fixed background against which the motion of the planets is measured. Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, where the motion of the planets is measured against the position of the Sun on the Spring equinox. Sidereal astrologers claim their approach is more in keeping with the ancient traditions of the subject. When the vernal point was first defined in the 2nd Century as 0° Aries, the tropical and sidereal zodiacs would have shown no difference. The precession of the equinoxes, a phenomenon know to the ancients but forgotten by Western astronomers during the Dark Ages, meant that the Western zodiac based on the calendar became out of step with the heavens. Western astrologers have never done a catching up exercise and many still do not fully understand the implications of their error.

Astronomers as well as tropical and sidereal astrologers still base their measurement of the sky on a zero point taken as the position of the vernal equinox on the ecliptic. This has the same significance in the sky as the prime meridian on the Earth’s globe, i.e. it is the zero point of a 360 degree arc which is used to give a location for any object in the sky known as right ascension. In the same way as longitude (and latitude) give a position on the Earth.

Sidereal astrologers add a correction to this point to allow for the precession of the equinoxes. They do this so that the zodiacal signs used in their astrology coincide with the constellations of stars to which they refer. This correction is called the ayanamsa and different sidereal astrologers use different precise values. This value is usually around 24 degrees at the present time and is constantly increasing as the equinoxes precess.

About 2,000 years ago, the two zodiacs were in approximate agreement and the vernal equinox fell at the start of the constellation Aries. Sidereal astrologers see the failure of most Western astrologers to relate their work to the actual heavens which they interpret as an opportunity for critics of astrology to denigrate the subject.

Science and astrology are based on two diametrically opposed points of view. Everyday, modern science makes new discoveries about the Cosmos, while the knowledge that gives us Vedic astrology is based on the ancient belief that, all that exists has already been discovered and that this knowledge is contained in the ancient scriptures. However, the correlation between astrological predictions and real life events is what makes the existence of astrology undeniable. The term 'Vedic astrology' was introduced by American astrologers in the 1980s and 1990s. 'Vedic' refers to the Hindu holy texts, known as 'Vedas'. This form of astrology is also known as 'Indian ' or 'Hindu' astrology. In the end, however, all of these words are English. In the ancient Indian language of Sanskrit, 'Vedic astrology' is referred to as 'Jyotish', which means the 'Science of Light.'

Time and space are concepts that are central to Vedic astrological calculations. In ancient times Vedic astrologers used the following units of time:
Vipal = 4 sec, Pal =24 sec, Ghari = 60 Pal, or 24 min and Ansh, 30 Ansh = 1 Month.
Today, Vedic astrologers use modern, metric time units to forecast their predictions and with the help of sophisticated computer software, it is possible for an astrologer to accurately cast the horoscope of any person, born at any location. Once a horoscope has been cast, an astrologer will usually analyse the following aspects:
Character and Personality Profile
Love and Relationships
Health
Money
Friend & Family
Destiny, or Fate in General

However, it is also possible to find the answer to a particular question by employing ‘Prasha Shastra’, or Horary astrology, by casting a horoscope specifically in relation to when the question was asked. The results of such readings, usually take the form of a simple, ‘Yes’ or ‘No’.

Astrology, be it Eastern or Western, is extremely vast and to explore every aspect of this fascinating subject would be quite beyond the scope of this article, not to mention this writer’s capabilities. Never the less, I hope that by scratching the surface, some of the mysteries shrouding astrology have been lifted.

Astrology Basics

Etymology
The etymology of the word astrology derives from two Greek words, 'astron' meaning star, and 'logia' meaning 'treating of' which was considered to mean 'telling of the stars'. Etymologically, the word 'astronomy' preceded that of astrology but included the study of astrology which historically can be traced back to ancient Mesopotamia, situated where modern Iraq is today.

Beginings
Some scholars think Babylon is where the art of star gazing originated. The lands of Babylon, Sumeria and Assyria used astrology for practical purposes, often connected to farming, the weather, and politics. The horoscope as a map of an individual psyche and life path would come later, during Classical times.

Astronomy derives from 'astron' star and 'nomos' 'arranging'. Astrology was associated with the practical application of astronomy. What did the 'stars' tell us about life? Was there a pattern in the sky which reflected what was going on here on earth? 'As above, so below' is a well known out-take from the Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus, allegedly written some time between the 3rd century BCE and 1st century CE. This phrase in particular and the whole message of the Emerald Tablet embraces the entire belief systems of modern western astrology, alchemy and occultism.

Astrology had already developed into a divinational tool in Classical times and was divided into 'natural' astrology and 'judicial' astrology later on in Europe in the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Natural astrology was the calculation and prediction of phenomena such as the tides, earthquakes, eclipses, and so on. Judicial astrology also known as 'astromancy' in the 17th century, was the influence of the celestial bodies on mankind. The first split from astronomy dates from c. 1400 CE when astrology was considered to be the telling, reading and influence of the planets and constellations on our future and destiny. 'I folwed ay myn inclinacioun/By vertu of my constillacioun" (Chaucer, Wife's Prologue, c. 1386). Describing the saucy, lusty Wife of Bath further he has her say 'venus me yaf my lust, my likerousnesses, And Mars yeaf me my sturdy hardyness'

The Present
Nowadays, astrology is considered to be the study of the astronomical bodies such as the planets, constellations, asteroids, meteors, planetoids and comets to understand both the the human psyche but also the events, experiences and affairs that happen whether past, present or future in the world. There are many different systems of astrology, including Vedic, Horary, Chinese, Spiritual, Psychological, Sidereal and Electional astrology.

Astronomy is now considered to be a science and astrology an art. Since the Cartesian scientific 'modern world' view, astrology became associated with the study of the movements, angles, positions of the heavenly bodies in relation to eacdh other as they pass through the zodiac and their effect on mankind. Nowadays most astrologers (also known as astrologists) consider the art of astrology to be a symbolic language that can be interpreted, rather than a set of circumstances which causes events to happen.

Some astrologers still attempt to prove through statistical evidence that the planets have a direct physical influence on us. The work of Michel and Francoise Gauqulin, for example, demonstrated that personality or choice of career seemed to be connected to the position of the planets at the time of birth. (Inglis, B. The Paranormal, Granada Publishing, 1985). Some interesting sun sign based statistical material has also been produced by insurance companies - much of this was explored by Gunter Sachs in his book Die Akte Astrologie, Wilhelm Goldmann Verlag, Munchen, 1997.

History of Astrology

Astrology is the practice of mapping planetary positions for a given date, time and place for the purpose of determining correlations between celestial phenomena and events on earth. These configurations are then interpreted to the context in which they apply.

As a subject, astrology can trace back its roots to Brahma (the creator in Indian mythology), who as per Garga Rishi, had handed him the concepts to be propagated among the masses - to its current stage when astrologers, astrology, astronomy and astronomers are referred to in the same breath.

During the bygone days, the right to study the science of astrology was a privilege of the priesthood. Astrology was employed more for the needs and benefits of daily life and the running of a successful kingdom. Astrologers were deemed astronomers, who were consulted for their star-gazing skills in so far as astronomy assisted astrology in religious functions, which the latter, who also took the cudgels of official priesthood, had to perform in connection with particular deity worship, navigational and agricultural pursuits. That somewhat explains why astrology was placed in such a divine "godlike science" pedestal, far away from the reach of the common man. The early civilized races, considered the stars to herald events still in the womb of time.

Astrology has become more accessible now, and people no longer find its principles esoteric. For one thing, it's easier to read about astrology in your mother tongue. Proficiency in classical languages is no longer a pre-requisite. Accurate time-keeping and calendars have brought it within the purview of the common man.

A certain veil of mystery engulfed astrology and the occult sciences (the two are often mistakenly equated together) & this has enticed man to delve deep into the mysteries of creation. Man looked to the Heavens in order to find answers to their mundane questions; how to construct symmetrical alters for worship, the best time for sowing seeds, when to venture into the seas, etc. Gradually, men who could answer such questions were given an elevated status in society so much so that they soon assumed roles of policy makers. The Greeks, Romans, Persians, Egyptians, Chaldeans, Sumerians, Akkadians, Arabs, Indians, etc have left a legacy of myths and legends and archeological evidence which goes to prove that the ancients were fascinated by astrology.

During the times when men were unable to fathom the mysteries of nature which defied rational understanding, such happenings were given a fatalistic hue. Till modern medicine, with its vaccinations decimated germs and viruses which caused epidemics in the past, people had no recourse but to depend upon astrologers for succor. Any indefinable phenomenon was imbibed with a divine colour and wish. To illustrate a very common disease, chicken pox, was thought to reflect the fury of goddess Sitala. Now it's a vaccine preventable disease. But if any one is inflicted with chicken pox, they consult a doctor and would also undertake all the traditional rituals required.

However all said and done, astrology was and will remain, the one branch of knowledge that will forever continue to entice man's needs to know more. The more one delves into its realms, the more his appetite is whetted. Erudite and authoritative texts compiled by sages like Agasthya, Vasistha and the like, such as the Panch Siddhanta Kosha, Soorya Siddhanta, Nityananda, Brhat Jataka, Aryabhat, Bhrigu Samhita, Mansagari, Ranveer , and the Laghu Parashar made for fascinating reading, even today. Interestingly, the records of the early astrologers of Nineveh and Babylon on clay tablets dating back to nearly 500 years can still be found in the British museum.

The Greeks cast horoscopes based on the time of birth giving details about the finance, family, fate and future of the individual. One such horoscope from Greece , return on papyrus, about 2000 years old, is preserved at the British Museum.
Pharonic Egypt too rated astrologers very highly. The pharaohs consulted astrologers to read the charts of the rival claimants to the throne, who were later put to death.
One of the pre-requisites for claiming kingship in China was the knowledge of astrology. In 2513 B.C. Cheuni was elected king in this manner.
Even Alexander the Great took along his astrologer, Calisthenis, on all his campaigns. He incorporated the astrological traditions of whichever country they happen to attack.
Thus every nation is credited with the knowledge of astrology. However, despite its ancient glories and triumphs, the relentless march of scientific enquiry has turned the astrologer into a soothsayer. No school of astrology can be the last word of authority and no two astrologers have the same perceptions. It relies more on the law of probability. Moreover there is hardly any governing body that will separate the wheat from the chaff. No wonder that charlatans abound to cheat the people.

All said and done, astrology does provide a certain amount of solace to people buffeted by the slings and arrows of an uncertain life. It gives them hope that their troubles will disappear and provides them confidence to carry on with life amidst all ills.
