Solar Chart - Divine Timing

The Age of Aquarius has brought with it a new Paradigm. The new Paradigm has given us the Laws of Quantum Physics.

These Laws amongst other things, are telling us that all is energy and that thoughts are things.

This is a perfect Paradigm for revising your Astrological Solar Chart. The Solar Chart is an energy matrix where the timing factors in a person's life are revealed to them.

The simplicity and the accuracy of the Solar Chart leaves you with a tool that will help you create a better future for yourself.

The All Father, Creator God, has promised us that we can have anything we want in life. Just ask. But we must learn when and how to ask. This is where the energy matrix of the Solar Chart comes in. It gives us the timing factors in our life.

Another thing the All-Father, Creator God has told us is that there are millions of things that we can have, and that there are millions of things we cannot have. The Solar Chart shows us what things are available to us and what is beyond our reach.

The houses in your Solar Chart are especially spaced every thirty degrees. If you are a Scorpio, (or any other sign), this is placed in your first house. Then the rest of the Zodiac is spread around the wheel counter clock wise. Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces etc.

For us (you and I) to build this new Solar Chart system using the new Paradigm of the Age of Aquarius, the Laws of Quantum Physics, we must tune in to the energies not the words.

Therefore, no matter what Sun Sign is in your first house of the Solar Chart the energies affect your , "personality." Second House is Money; Third House "Communications."; Fourth House "Home"; Fifth house "Creativity." Sixth House "Health"; Seventh House "Career."; Eleventh House "Friendship" ; Twelfth house "the Past."

These are your basic building blocks. They cover all possible areas of your life.

Now for the timing. The Sun is "Power." What ever house the Sun is in at this particular time will be powered. If the Sun (now in Sag at the time of writing) is in your fifth house of Aries Solar Chart, it means that the power to create will be stronger than any other time of the year.

By following the movement of the Sun around your Solar Chart, you will know when it is the right time to do anything. Get into the habit of putting your energy and efforts into the energies of the key word of the house that is being powered by the Sun.

This is how you can learn to build a sane, safe constructive life.

Saturn

In Roman mythology, Saturn is the god of agriculture. The associated Greek god, Cronus, was the son of Uranus and Gaia and the father of Zeus (Jupiter). Saturn is the root of the English word "Saturday" (see Appendix 5).

Saturn has been known since prehistoric times. Galileo was the first to observe it with a telescope in 1610; he noted its odd appearance but was confused by it. Early observations of Saturn were complicated by the fact that the Earth passes through the plane of Saturn's rings every few years as Saturn moves in its orbit. A low resolution image of Saturn therefore changes drastically. It was not until 1659 that Christiaan Huygens correctly inferred the geometry of the rings. Saturn's rings remained unique in the known solar system until 1977 when very faint rings were discovered around Uranus (and shortly thereafter around Jupiter and Neptune).

Saturn was first visited by NASA's Pioneer 11 in 1979 and later by Voyager 1 and Voyager 2. Cassini (a joint NASA / ESA project) arrived on July 1, 2004 and will orbit Saturn for at least four years.

Saturn is visibly flattened (oblate) when viewed through a small telescope; its equatorial and polar diameters vary by almost 10% (120,536 km vs. 108,728 km). This is the result of its rapid rotation and fluid state. The other gas planets are also oblate, but not so much so.

Saturn is the least dense of the planets; its specific gravity (0.7) is less than that of water.

Like Jupiter, Saturn is about 75% hydrogen and 25% helium with traces of water, methane, ammonia and "rock", similar to the composition of the primordial Solar Nebula from which the solar system was formed.

Saturn's interior is similar to Jupiter's consisting of a rocky core, a liquid metallic hydrogen layer and a molecular hydrogen layer. Traces of various ices are also present.

Saturn's interior is hot (12000 K at the core) and Saturn radiates more energy into space than it receives from the Sun. Most of the extra energy is generated by the Kelvin-Helmholtz mechanism as in Jupiter. But this may not be sufficient to explain Saturn's luminosity; some additional mechanism may be at work, perhaps the "raining out" of helium deep in Saturn's interior.

The bands so prominent on Jupiter are much fainter on Saturn. They are also much wider near the equator. Details in the cloud tops are invisible from Earth so it was not until the Voyager encounters that any detail of Saturn's atmospheric circulation could be studied. Saturn also exhibits long-lived ovals (red spot at center of image at right) and other features common on Jupiter. In 1990, HST observed an enormous white cloud near Saturn's equator which was not present during the Voyager encounters; in 1994 another, smaller storm was observed (left).

Two prominent rings (A and B) and one faint ring (C) can be seen from the Earth. The gap between the A and B rings is known as the Cassini division. The much fainter gap in the outer part of the A ring is known as the Encke Division (but this is somewhat of a misnomer since it was very likely never seen by Encke). The Voyager pictures show four additional faint rings. Saturn's rings, unlike the rings of the other planets, are very bright (albedo 0.2 - 0.6).

Though they look continuous from the Earth, the rings are actually composed of innumerable small particles each in an independent orbit. They range in size from a centimeter or so to several meters. A few kilometer-sized objects are also likely.

Saturn's rings are extraordinarily thin: though they're 250,000 km or more in diameter they're less than one kilometer thick. Despite their impressive appearance, there's really very little material in the rings -- if the rings were compressed into a single body it would be no more than 100 km across.

The ring particles seem to be composed primarily of water ice, but they may also include rocky particles with icy coatings.

Voyager confirmed the existence of puzzling radial inhomogeneities in the rings called "spokes" which were first reported by amateur astronomers (left). Their nature remains a mystery, but may have something to do with Saturn's magnetic field.

Saturn's outermost ring, the F-ring, is a complex structure made up of several smaller rings along which "knots" are visible. Scientists speculate that the knots may be clumps of ring material, or mini moons. The strange braided appearance visible in the Voyager 1 images (right) is not seen in the Voyager 2 images perhaps because Voyager 2 imaged regions where the component rings are roughly parallel. They are prominent in the Cassini images which also show some as yet unexplained wispy spiral structures.

There are complex tidal resonances between some of Saturn's moons and the ring system: some of the moons, the so-called "shepherding satellites" (i.e. Atlas, Prometheus and Pandora) are clearly important in keeping the rings in place; Mimas seems to be responsible for the paucity of material in the Cassini division, which seems to be similar to the Kirkwood gaps in the asteroid belt; Pan is located inside the Encke Division and S/2005 S1 is in the center of the Keeler Gap. The whole system is very complex and as yet poorly understood.

The origin of the rings of Saturn (and the other jovian planets) is unknown. Though they may have had rings since their formation, the ring systems are not stable and must be regenerated by ongoing processes, perhaps the breakup of larger satellites. The current set of rings may be only a few hundred million years old.

Like the other jovian planets, Saturn has a significant magnetic field.

When it is in the nighttime sky, Saturn is easily visible to the unaided eye. Though it is not nearly as bright as Jupiter, it is easy to identify as a planet because it doesn't "twinkle" like the stars do. The rings and the larger satellites are visible with a small astronomical telescope. There are several Web sites that show the current position of Saturn (and the other planets) in the sky. More detailed and customized charts can be created with a planetarium program.

Saturn's Satellites
Saturn has 34 named satellites:
Of those moons for which rotation rates are known, all but Phoebe and Hyperion rotate synchronously.
The three pairs Mimas-Tethys, Enceladus-Dione and Titan-Hyperion interact gravitationally in such a way as to maintain stable relationships between their orbits: the period of Mimas' orbit is exactly half that of Tethys, they are thus said to be in a 1:2 resonance; Enceladus-Dione are also 1:2; Titan-Hyperion are in a 3:4 resonance.
See http://www.ifa.hawaii.edu/%7Esheppard/satellites/ for the latest about recently discovered moons.
See http://spaceflightnow.com/cassini/040816newmoons.html for info about two discovered in 2004 by Cassini.

* distance is kilometers from Saturn's center
* the "Encke Minima" is a slang term used by amateur astronomers, not an official IAU designation
This categorization is actually somewhat misleading as the density of particles varies in a complex way not indicated by a division into neat regions: there are variations within the rings; the gaps are not entirely empty; the rings are not perfectly circular.

Astrology

Many people think of astrology as a newspaper’s one-sentence predictions for the day ahead; the little pearls of advice to keep in mind while plunging blindly into the future. It’s human nature to want to know the unknown. However, newspaper astrology is vague, and it seems the cryptic predictions can be applied to just about anything. How can the stars, skeptics ask, really predict our future?

Astrologers and astrology devotees retort that the astrology found in the newspaper approaches nowhere near the depth and subtlety of a professional astrologer analyzing a birth chart. Not only that, but astrologers go to great pains to explain that astrology is not predictive – it’s not going to explain what is going to happen that day, or that month, or that year.

Instead, astrology is interpretive: An astrological chart can show a person’s tendencies, challenges, abilities and potential. An astrological chart, when read by a professional astrologer, can help people get to know themselves better.

Most people know what their sun signs are, but just as there is much more to astrology than newspaper predictions, there is much more to an astrological chart than a person’s Sun sign.

Astrology Signs
In astrology, the sky is divided into 12 parts, known as constellations. Each constellation is represented by a different sign, and each sign represents different traits and qualities. The foundation for astrology is this system of signs, known as the zodiac.

The most fundamental sign is a person’s Sun sign. The Sun sign depends on the sun’s location in the sky at the moment of a person’s birth. The Sun signs are:

Aries the Ram – March 20 to April 19
Taurus the Bull – April 20 to May 20
Gemini the Twins – May 21 to June 20
Cancer the Crab – June 21 to July 22
Leo the Lion – July 23 to August 22
Virgo the Virgin – August 23 to September 22
Libra the Scales – September 23 to October 22
Scorpio the Scorpion – October 23 to November 21
Sagittarius the Archer – November 22 to December 21
Capricorn the Goat – December 22 to January 19
Aquarius the Water Bearer – January 20 to February 18
Pisces the Fish – February 19 to March 19

Each sign represents different traits. People born under the Sun sign Gemini (also stated as Sun in Gemini) tend to be witty, loquacious and curious, while those born under the sign of Pisces (Sun in Pisces) are known as dreamers, sensitive and poetic.

Skeptics point out that it’s ridiculous to think that all people born under the same sign would be exactly the same, and they’re right. But that’s not the belief that astrology holds. Actually, it would be foolish and wrong to say that all people born under the sign of Gemini are witty and curious. More details are factored into an astrological profile – the Sun sign is just one of the basics.

Astrology Planets
The location of the moon and the planets of the solar system at the time of one’s birth play a huge role in an astrological chart. Additionally, each planet represents a different aspect of the self.

Sun: the essential self.
Moon: emotions and instinct.
Mercury: communication and thought.
Venus: love and the arts.
Mars: physical energy and combativeness.
Jupiter: prosperity and good fortune.
Saturn: imitation, organization and ambition.
Uranus: originality and inventiveness.
Neptune: dreams and imagination.
Pluto: renewal and transformation.
The planets and signs work together to express various aspects of a personality. For example, let’s say the planet Venus is in the sign of Gemini (Venus in Gemini) at the time of a person’s birth. We already know that Venus represents love, among other things, and that Gemini is witty, loquacious and curious. Putting the two together, we can suggest that this person might be somewhat flirtatious, flitting from romance to romance, and attracted to witty conversationalists.

One way of thinking about the signs and planets is that the sign represents how something is expressed, while the planet represents what is expressed.

Astrology Houses
Adding even more depth to the astrological chart is the concept of houses. In addition to the 12 signs of the zodiac, the sky is divided into 12 houses. Where the planets fall in the house layout will also affect the reading of a chart.

Each astrological house represents different aspects of a person’s life. Some of the major aspects for each house are:

First House: appearance and disposition.
Second House: material goods.
Third House: communication and siblings.
Fourth House: home and roots.
Fifth House: romance and creativity.
Sixth House: employment and health.
Seventh House: partnerships.
Eighth House: sex and death.
Ninth House: higher education and religion.
Tenth House: career.
Eleventh House: friendship.
Twelfth House: secrets and self-undoing.

The planets and signs interact with the houses to add complexity and richness to a chart reading. If the signs represent how something is expressed and the planets represent what is being expressed, the houses represent where those things are expressed.

For example, suppose somebody’s chart shows Venus in the Third House. Venus is the planet representing love and the arts, while the Third House represents communication and siblings. This person might enjoy writing or literature, or be an eloquent speaker. Perhaps one of this person’s siblings is an artist or involved in the arts.

Though signs, planets and houses are the fundamental building blocks of astrology, there are more aspects involved in a thorough chart reading, including the placement of certain asteroids, ascendant and descendant signs, and even how the planets interact with one another on the chart itself.

Astrology Compatibility

Have you ever wondered about what type of person you are astrologically compatible with, or astrologically how compatible are you with your present partner? No..? According to the principles of astrology, nobody is born perfect, but once you know what the reasons for your problems are, you're half on your way to resolving them.

Although many people do not realise this, in some Eastern cultures, astrology is considered to be a reliable and accurate way of determining just how compatible two people are for each other. In India, where most marriages are arranged by the families of the bride and groom, an astrological compatibility check is often considered to be essential before matters are formally pursued. Such a check would involve a comparing of the horoscopes of the bride and groom according the Vedic astrology principle of 'Ashkut Milan'. This is a comparison of eight basic astrological characteristics, which include intellectual compatibility, degree of mutual attraction, level of mutual beneficence, physical/biological compatibility, emotional compatibility, compatibility of temperaments, progeny, possible conflicts due to past karma (hereditary) causes.

If carried out correctly, an expert astrologer can analyse the results of such a comparison and provide a comprehensive report that covers:

• A point by point comparison of these eight characteristics.
• An explanation of the role and effect of each characteristic.
• A compatibility score, on a scale of 1 to 36.
• A summary of the planetary comparisons of the two horoscopes.

An astrological comparison of two people isn't just limited to their personal relationship either. Astrological compatibility reports of this nature are regularly consulted before business partnerships are entered into, as they allow two individuals to identify possible areas of conflict or areas where they may compliment one another, thereby accurately determining what type of people can form successful business or professional partnerships. This can be of particular interest if you wish to know how well you will get on with your new boss or colleague, or who you should or shouldn't go into business with. Of course, in order to make such analysis, the exact time, date and place of birth of the two concerned persons are required. However, even if this information is not available, a simpler analysis can be made using ‘Horary Astrology’, which will allow the enquirer to received a simple ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ to their query.

One has to bear in mind though, that an 'Ashkut Milan' astrology compatibility report is not similar to the free readings one may find on many Western astrology based websites. As these free readings are usually generic comparisons of Sun Signs and are therefore too general in nature to be of any purposeful value. Eastern (Vedic) astrology, on the other hand, follows the Moon Sign and Moon Chart system and a well prepared 'Ashkut Milan' comparison will deliver a clear and concise conclusion, confirming whether two individuals are, or are not compatible with each other.

Another important point that one must also keep in mind is that astrological predictions are not similar to psychic readings, which rely on the power of intuition. Astrological predictions involve interpreting planetary alignments and transits, as they exist in an individual’s horoscope, according to the well defined laws of astrology. While astrological predictions are usually more accurate than psychic readings, they do not allow for the analysis of micro - detail. Therefore, the enquirer should expect broad, but accurate predictions.

Above all, making an astrological reading is a serious business and must be dealt with in a similar frame of mind, in order for accurate, meaningful predictions to be made. Most astrologers agree that if frivolous questions are asked, misguided predictions follow. Below are a few examples of the types of questions that fall into this category. These are actual contributions that were sent to PowerFortunes.com. Unfortunately, the senders are still waiting for replies and shall continue to do so for quite some time to come:
1. Does so and so fancy me?
2. What will I have for breakfast tomorrow?
3. Will I buy new clothes tomorrow?
4. What will my life be like? (That’s really narrowing it down. - Not)
6. What is the colour of my ex - girlfriend's hair?
7. Will I get a tattoo on Saturday? (Yes, right next to the one on your brain.)

Considering that most marriages in India are of the ‘Arranged’ variety and the divorce rate amongst those marriages is less than 2%, if nothing else the statistical evidence alone, would seem to suggest that there may be more to, 'Ashkut Milan' astrological compatibility reports, than one might first suspect.

Chinese astrology

Chinese astrology's historical background

Chinese astrology is undoubtedly the oldest coherent method of divination in the world — it came into existence some seventeen centuries before the Bible. It has influenced — and even regulated — the lives of countless generations in the Far East from time immemorial. Contrary to what one might think, the progress of modern science in all fields has not tarnished its image as an esteemed guide to human destiny and self-discovery. In fact, the East Asians are no longer the only persons to have recourse to Chinese astrology; more and more people in the industrialized, rationalistic Western world, and especially in the United States, are getting awakened to and interested in this system of fortune-telling which took root in one of the most prestigious known civilizations.
The foremost origins of Chinese astrology are shrouded in the haze of the ancient times. No one is able to tell exactly when and under what conditions this method of divination came into use. It is known however that Chinese astrology under one form or another had been widely practiced in the Orient since the 40th century BC and especially since the times of the Chinese Emperors Fu Hsi (2953-2838 BC) and Shen Nung (born in the 28th century BC).
This discipline was codified by Ta Nao, an able minister of Emperor Huang Ti (born c. 2704 BC), whose reign had begun in 2697 BC. It was officialized in 2637 BC. Its formal inauguration, among other historical events, was designed to celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of the popular Emperor's accession to the throne. And during the following forty-six centuries it was used as the canon of all state affairs in China.
The system has undergone many minor changes through the ages. The latest modification took place in the early tenth century AD, when the notorious astrologer Tran Doan fixed the number of stars used at 111.
Ever since it officially came into effect nearly 5,000 years ago, Chinese astrology has functioned smoothly, uninterruptedly, like a perfect clockwork, and provided countless generations with enlightenment and guidance.

The pillars of Chinese astrology

Chinese astrology, like almost all other Chinese disciplines, reposes on four main pillars, which call for some succinct comments. These pillars are: the concept of Yang and Yin, the notion of the Five Elements, the patterns of all cosmic transformations, and finally the Chinese calendar.

Yang and Yin
According to the ancient Chinese, the entire Universe, as it presents itself to our observation, owes its existence to the perennial and incessant interaction between two primal forces, or principles, called Yang and Yin. In other words, it is the interplay between Yang and Yin that makes up the ever-changing flow of natural processes. (The Yang-Yin concept can be traced back to Fu Hsi who is said to have discovered the famous Chinese trigrams used in Chinese divination. Yin is represented graphically by a broken line ––, and Yang by an unbroken line ─ .) As a consequence, any situation in the Universe — be it a rainy night or a sunny day, a rock or a living organism, a change or a transformation, peace or war, luck or misfortune, disease or well-being, and so on — is believed to be the ineluctable result of a specific relationship, or rather a specific balance of power, between Yang and Yin. Furthermore, Yin is associated with the negative (passive, female, docile, etc.) force, whereas Yang is a representation of the positive (active, male, aggressive, etc.) force. (Yang and Yin literally mean "sunny side" and "dark side" of a hill.) The following statement in the Hsi Tz'u sums up this theory fairly well: "The virile and the docile displace each other and produce the changes and transformations" (Sec. I, Ch. 2).
To have an idea of what Yang and Yin are, let's compare them to the positive and negative charges of modern science's atoms.
Since Yang and Yin are at the root of all aspects and phenomena of existence, everything is related to everything else, and in the last analysis man and the world of nature form a unified whole — respectively a microcosm within the macrocosm. Health, character, fortune and misfortune, and the success or failure of all public and private ventures are assumed to be determined by the preponderance, at the times and in the specific "proportions", of Yin over Yang or vice versa. To put it differently, there exists a close interdependence between the world of nature and the events of man. Here lies the most important postulate that acts as a justification for the raison d'ĂȘtre of Chinese astrology.

The Five Elements
Yang and Yin constitute the limits that embrace all things — male and female, light and dark, hot and cold, high and low, pair and impair, extension and compression, growth and decline, birth and death, and so forth. But since Yang and Yin perpetually react to each other, the cosmos is not static: change is its essence. And, it is believed, the material as well as immaterial worlds resulting from the myriad mutual interactions of Yang and Yin are reducible to five basic sorts of phenomena, or Elements, called Wu Hsing.
The Five Elements are: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. These are cosmic "agents," conceived as basic powers, or forces, operating in the world of change — by opposing, complementing, or succeeding one another. These forces, like the atoms that explain the Universe of modern science, produce all things and situations through their various interactions and permutations.
It must be made clear that the Five Elements are the basis of differentiation of things and situations, whereas Yang and Yin constitute their actuality. To put it figuratively, Yang and Yin may be likened to an entire egg — with its shell — while the Five Elements, thanks to their mutual reactions, cause the egg white and yolk to undergo a multitude of changes within the shell. As can be seen, the power of the Five Elements is secondary to that of the couple Yang-Yin.
It should be pointed out that Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water are only symbols used to represent the five basic cosmic forces.

Patterns of cosmic transformations
In what way do cosmic transformations occur? According to Chinese observation, they appear as having two definite characteristics. First, they are not blind, anarchic, but follow certain trends that permit us to classify them into a number of main categories; in other words, while the Universe is in a perpetual flux, this flux obeys definite laws, fall into regular, fixed and therefore predictable patterns. Should this situation be otherwise, Chinese astrology as we know it would not have existed since there would not have been any predictive basis to it. Second, cosmic transformations do not take place in a linear succession, in the manner of the "flowing stream" dear to Heraclitus Ephesus (530-470 BC), but in a distinctly cyclic fashion. Both Yin-Yang and the Five Elements lend substance to the characteristically Chinese belief in the cyclical theory of becoming and dissolution concerning seasons, history, fortune, misfortune, prosperity, decline, and so on. In sum, everything is believed to proceed in cycles.

Recording of cycles
According to Chinese thinking, there exist two main evolutionary cycles in the Universe — the duodecimal cycle with twelve units, and the decimal cycle with ten units.
To name such units, the Chinese use neither numeral nor ordinal terms — the equivalent of one, two, three, or of first, second, third, etc. — but resort to special words. The Vietnamese names of the duodecimal cycle's units are: Ti, Suu, Dan, Mao, Thin, Ty, Ngo, Mui, Than, Dau, Tuat, Hoi. And the Vietnamese names of the decimal cycle's units are: Giap, At, Binh, Dinh, Mau, Ky, Canh, Tan, Nham, Quy. (These Vietnamese names are exact transcriptions of the Chinese names, and I cite them because they have the advantage of being written in the Roman alphabet.)
At one time the ancient Chinese decided to place each of the duodecimal cycle's units under the symbol of a familiar animal as a mnemotechnical device. The twelve symbolic animals are the following, in due order: Rat, Buffalo, Tiger, Cat, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig. (In some East Asian countries, the Buffalo is replaced by the Ox, the Cat by the Rabbit or Hare, the Goat by the Sheep or Ram, and the Pig by the Boar. The symbolism remains the same.)
What were the reasons for the choice of these specific animals? The ancient Chinese had recourse to these symbols to put into concrete form their findings about the results of the specific relationship between Yang and Yin each of the duodecimal cycle's units. In other words, each unit of the duodecimal cycle undergoes the influence of a definite balance of power between the two primal forces, and this balance of power is symbolized by an animal which seems the most fit to play the role. For instance, a slow-moving and docile animal like the Buffalo suggests a predominance of Yin over Yang in a specific proportion, while a vivacious, frisky animal like the Horse indicates a contrary situation.
On the other hand, every set of two consecutive units of the decimal cycle was placed under the jurisdiction of a cosmic element. Thus, Giap and At are governed by Wood, Binh and Dinh by Fire, Mau and Ky by Earth, Canh and Tan by Metal, Nham and Quy by Water.
There also exists a third main cycle, which is a combination of the two preceding cycles, and has sixty units (12 x 5 = 60). It's called the sexagenary cycle. This cycle evolves as follows:
1st unit: Giap-Ti or Wood Rat
2nd unit: At-Suu or Wood Buffalo
3rd unit: Binh-Dan or Fire Tiger
4th unit: Dinh-Mao or Fire Cat
5th unit: Mau-Thin or Earth Dragon
6th unit: Ky-Ty or Earth Snake
7th unit: Canh-Ngo or Metal Horse
8th unit: Tan-Mui or Metal Goat
9th unit: Nham-Than or Water Monkey
10th unit: Quy-Dau or Water Rooster
11th unit: Giap-Tuat or Wood Dog
12th unit: At-Hoi or Wood Pig
13th unit: Binh-Ti or Fire Rat
14th unit: Dinh-Suu or Fire Buffalo
15th unit: Mau-Dan or Earth Tiger
16th unit: Ky-Mao or Earth Cat
......... ......... ...............
58th unit: Tan-Dau or Metal Rooster
59th unit: Nham-Tuat or Water Dog
60th unit: Quy-Hoi or Water Pig
As can be seen, the sexagenary cycle's first unit is always Wood Rat, the second unit Wood Buffalo, the tenth unit Water Rooster, and the sixtieth and last unit Water Pig.

Use of the main cycles
The three main cycles discussed above are applied to many categories of things, and especially to all Chinese time units — epoch, century, year, month, day, hour.
Chinese astrology, for its part, makes use of the duodecimal and sexagenary cycles as applied to Chinese years, months, days and hours.
Since the count began in the year 2637 BC (see preceding section), that year was a Rat year (duodecimal cycle) and also a Wood Rat year (sexagenary cycle), the following year (2636 BC) was a Buffalo year and also a Wood Buffalo year, and so on. Proceeding this way we can know that the year 1997 AD was a Fire Buffalo year and that all people born in that year are known to Chinese astrologers as Fire Buffaloes.
The Chinese twelve-year cycle is of paramount importance and is also called the Chinese zodiac. The word "zodiac" (literally, "circle of animals") is fully justified here, while it is not in Western astrology as Gemini, Virgo, Libra and Aquarius are not represented by animals.
Let it be known that the first month of any Chinese year is always a Tiger month.

The Chinese calendar
The Chinese calendar is the last of the four main pillars of Chinese astrology. It is unquestionably the most perfect in the world since it takes into account both the sun's and the moon's revolutions — the Gregorian calendar is only patterned on the sun to the exclusion of the moon, while the Jewish and Muslim calendars are only patterned on the moon to the exclusion of the sun.
The Chinese calendar officially came into existence at the same time as Chinese astrology — under the reign of Emperor Huang Ti, in the year 2637 BC.
Chinese months are replicas of the moon's revolutions, or lunations. They invariably begin with a new-moon day. Consequently, Chinese months are lunar.
Chinese years are replicas of the sun's revolutions, or tropical years. They invariably begin with the second new-moon day after the winter solstice. Consequently, Chinese years are solar, contrary to common belief. The Chinese New Year's day is movable — just as Easter Day, which is also tributary of the moon — and takes place somewhere between January 21st and February 20th according to astronomic circumstances.

How Chinese astrology works

In the last analysis, Chinese astrology is nothing else than an enormous catalog of the innumerable circumstances which result from the intricate interplay between Yang and Yin as well as between the Five Elements, and are translated into the human sphere. Each moment of a person's life is believed to correspond to a definite state of this interplay.
To pinpoint definite states of the cosmic interplay in people's lives, Chinese astrology makes use of two principal tools — the Chinese twelve-year zodiac (or cycle), and the Chinese stars.

The Chinese twelve-year zodiac
As has been said, the duodecimal zodiac is composed of twelve Chinese years. Each of these years is placed under the jurisdiction of a symbolic animal.
All people of the same sex born under the same animal symbol — in the same Chinese year — are believed to undergo the influence of the same set of Yang-Yin interactions and, consequently, to have the same destiny capital; this means they are assumed to be endowed with about the same character traits, the same assets and liabilities, the same potentialities and limitations, the same strengths and weaknesses, the same opportunities and problems, the same preferences and aversions, the same health privileges and pathological predispositions, the same reaction patterns and emotional makeup, and so on. To put it differently, they are assumed to fit in with the same general mold. To know the Chinese birth year of a person, therefore, means to have access to knowing the main features of his (or her) personality and destiny.
On the other hand, each Chinese year in the duodecimal cycle is supposed to bring about a definite course of events in the world's affairs, and also to exercise a different influence on people born under different animal symbols.
The influence of the Elements, although important, is secondary to that of the Yang-Yin interplay. It brings some precision to the character portraits symbolized by the animals. The role of the Elements in Chinese astrology is somewhat similar to that of the Ascendants in Western astrology. Thus, while all Horses possess the same set of primary destiny features, a Fire Horse differs slightly from his brother Metal Horse, and the latter's traits are not quite similar to those of a Water Horse, and so on.

The Chinese stars
One hundred and eleven stars (or planets) are used in Chinese astrology. Only ten of these stars are known to Western astrology — Jupiter, Mars, Moon, Mercury, Neptune, Pluto, Saturn, Sun, Uranus, and Venus. The other hundred and one stars are celestial bodies or constellations whose nature had been studied by the Chinese for thousands of years.
Unlike what happens in Western astrology, the Chinese stars are not believed to exercise direct influence on people and the world, but are used only as symbols of various sets of cosmic interactions — just as the twelve animals represent other sets.
The combination of the twelve-year zodiac and the 111 stars gives us a total of 512,640 personality charts. This means that, out of more than a million persons, only two individuals would fit in with about the same description! These two individuals may, furthermore, be somewhat different from each other due to their respective social and geographical environment as well as to other factors.
On the other hand, the combination of the twelve-year zodiac and the 111 stars allows the astrologer to know probable past and future events in his consultant's life, and also to advise him on how to favorably modify the course of his destiny.

The scope of Chinese astrology

Is Chinese astrology a valid system of fortune-telling and a reliable method of destiny analysis, or is it simply a carefully studied hoax? Can it really teach us something useful? Can it still have its raison d'ĂȘtre at the threshold of the twenty-first century?
The mere fact that Chinese astrology is thriving not only in the Orient but also in the Western world does not necessarily imply its validity, for "in view of the silliness of the majority of mankind, a widespread belief is more likely to be foolish than sensible" (Bertrand Russell). We should therefore appraise its value by basing ourselves on other criteria.

Chinese astrology as a science
Many practitioners of Chinese astrology claim that this is a science in the ordinary sense of the word. They base their contention on the fact that this discipline, philosophical though it may sound, reposes on the foundations that are getting more and more scientific confirmation. They point out that Chinese acupuncture and macrobiotic cookery, both issued from the concepts of Yin-Yang and from notion of the Five Elements, just like Chinese astrology, have worked irrefutable wonders and are winning over an ever-increasing number of followers throughout the world.
Rationalistic-minded people may feel skeptical about the true, objective value of Chinese astrology since its findings are not open to scientific demonstration and verification. To allay such suspicion, supporters generally answer that Chinese astrology, in all fairness, must be viewed not as an exact science but as a science dealing with human beings, who are endowed with free will and subject to the influence of their multifaceted environment; it is concededly unable to predict all the details of any person's character and destiny but can assess many aspects of human life in a general way. While it is only fair to allow this science a reasonable margin of uncertainty concerning specific individuals — so the argument goes — its teachings have revealed themselves through the ages quite relevant and sometimes even startling as far as "average" persons are concerned.
My opinion is that Chinese astrology still has to prove its worth conclusively. But it does deserve a fair trial, even though you do not believe in its merits, since in practicing it we run no risk of losing anything and may hit upon the truth. If you subscribe to the idea that only results count, then Chinese astrology is very worthwhile since it has worked indisputable wonders. In any case, Chinese astrology as an earnest study of human character can help acquire a sharp flair for human psychology and behavior. Of course, Chinese astrology, like any other esoteric discipline, cannot expect to be immune against more or less blatant quackery.

Chinese astrology as an art
It would not be excessive to view true Chinese astrology as an art. Unlike other astrologies or methods of divination in the world, it never concerns itself with death, reincarnation or the great Beyond; on the contrary, it deals with the individual as a subject who actually lives in this world and who is free to follow the course of action and reaction of his own choice. It never sets up hard-and-fast rules that would give way to a mechanical interpretation.
Chinese astrologers of the purest tradition never lose sight of all the imponderables that surround the life of the individual. They are artists rather than scientists — they make more use of their intuition, insight and open-mindedness than of their erudition; in other words, they practice their craft in accordance with the rules of the art.

My interpretation of Chinese astrology
As is the case with the I Ching — the bible of the Chinese — the fundamental data of Chinese astrology were given in a very succinct, almost enigmatic form. They need to be explained, paraphrased and formulated explicitly if they are intended for present-day popular use.
On the other hand, since life is an ever-changing process, the inventors of Chinese astrology could not obviously foresee in detail what might happen centuries afterwards; it was impossible for them, for instance, to tackle such items as space travels, the atomic bomb, the telephone, the television, the Women's Liberation Movement, computers, or Internet. But they did give enough basic hints about the eternal components of human nature which could and should be adequately interpreted in the light of given circumstances.
My own interpretation of Chinese astrology has always been to translate the basic teachings of this discipline into terms relevant to the Western world and late-twentieth-century life. And I have tried to do it as faithfully as possible.

Vedic astrology

Vedic astrology, a branch of knowledge of our ancient Vedas, has three main branches or Skandhas, namely, Sidhantha dealing with Astronomy and Mathematics, Samhita dealing with Omens and Hora dealing with Horoscopy, Horary and Muhurtha. Astrology is also called Kalavidhana Sastra or a science that imparts advice about ‘Time’ and its divisions. It helps us to determine the nature of the past, present and future and to find out how the flow of time affects humans, animals and plants. The aim of this branch of knowledge is also to foresee the pleasures and pains of the life on this earth.

Time is the cause for everything that is good and bad - pleasure or pain - in life. Time is the cause of all movements. Even thought is time bound. Thoughts cannot break away form the boundaries caused by time, as they are based on our past and present experiences. To predict the happenings of the future incidents of life, we should study the Time. But we cannot see, touch or hear the Time. However, we can know and comprehend it with our mind and analyze it. This is possible only because we can observe movements. Even thought is a movement. It is only by watching the movements that the concept of the ‘Time’ originates in our mind. The movements we observe from the earth, like the flying of birds, fall of withered leaves from trees, the flowering of plants, the sunrise and sunset, the waxing and waning of the Moon and the subtle cosmic schedules like the movements of planets, make us experience the existence of Time. Time is the cause of all movements. It is the cause for the movements of Earth, Moon and planets. It is the cause for life and death of plants, animals and humans. It is the cause for all our worldly happenings like births, marriages, accidents, diseases, deaths, wealth or poverty or other events, which one could conceive of.

To know about, in advance, the events of the life of humans or to predict the future of anything, we should study Time. We cannot study it directly. But there is a way out, as the Time is the cause for all movements. So, if we study the movements of cosmic bodies like Earth, Moon, Planets, etc., we can know, understand and comprehend the rhythm of Time, its ebbs and flows. If we are able to know the rhythm of Time or the flow of time felt by the human minds, we can predict the life incidents of humans. We can say what he is and what he would become. At the same time, let us not forget that the prediction is probabilistic. Astrology originates from this basic rationale. It is not irrational or irrelevant. In fact, throwing mud on the truthfulness and sincerity of Rishis who created this branch of study is irrational.

By watching the clock we can determine time. But the clock does not control time. When the birds cry we know that it is sunrise. Still, it is not the birds, which cause the sunrise. Similarly the study of planetary movements helps us to predict the past, present and future events of life. In fact, it is not the planets that control the destiny of humans, but time. The sunlight that is reflected by the planets and the attractive forces of planets may have only a little impact on human destiny, but the impact of time is supreme. Here I am emphasizing the importance of time in shaping human destiny compared to the impact of light or attractive forces of planets. It is a truth both the wise astrologer and the scientist know. Planets are just instruments that help us in understanding the rhythm of time, the instrument that helps us in predicting the human destiny. Planets are utilized in astrology in this way. Every believer of Vedic astrology should understand this truth.

When one understands this basic rationale of astrology, the unnecessary arguments and debates will stop. We must try to see astrology in its true theoretical foundation. Why should we argue whether astrology is an art or science? Astrology is nothing but Astrology. If somebody asks whether bat is bird or not, what would be the answer? It will only create an unending array of positive and negative arguments. If somebody asks whether history is science or not, even without my intervention, one will know that the result would be the same. Bat is bat, history is history and astrology is nothing but astrology, neither science nor an art.

The fault lies in our view. Why should we try to cast something into a particular mould, or to limit subjects into some colored boxes? Man wants to classify everything. The truth would be always beyond all the classifications. It stays outside all the classification attempts. The fault lies fundamentally with the fragmented human brain that tries to classify everything, which ultimately leads to erroneous knowledge. This fundamental error remains unsolved and we are trying to limit the subjects in to predefined boxes. It is the second mistake. Will these repeated errors lead us to correct knowledge and view?

When I have written this much, I felt that the fundamental classification error of fragmented human brain should be clarified further. Let me explain. We divide the time in many ways, such as hour, minute, second, or Nadi, Vinadi in Indian system, or as Christian, Vikrama or Kaliyuga eras. Many other systems could be used to divide time. Year, month, day divisions or the solar, sidereal, lunar, will all be the same. There are thousands of methods! All these classifications originated in human mind. Truly, time is beyond all these classifications. Are the hour-minute divisions or the nadi-vinadi divisions correct? Time is continuous. All these classifications are created by the fragmented human brain to comprehend time. Our view is fragmented. It is like a fragmented mirror that shows the picture of the complete and continuous world in a fragmented way. Even though these classifications are necessary for humans to study and comprehend time, the continuous entity “Time” does not need all these classification. Despite the presence or absence of all these classifications, the Time will prevail. Existing always and beyond. Yes, all the classifications are wrong. But human brain cannot but have them. That is why it is said that every branch of study is nothing but “attempts to comprehend the incomprehensible and complete world with fragmented classifications.”

In a fragmented mirror, the reflected world would also be fragmented. It is the fundamental limitation of human brain or mind. That is why it is said, “The eternal truth is realized only in a mindless state.” The Vedic verse “etho vacha nivarthanthe aprapya manasa saha” (where the mind turns back with the unreachable words) - that is Truth,” points to this direction. Due to all these, we cannot but accept the fundamental error of trying to comprehend the non-fragmented existence (world), with the fragmented mind. Can we not at least avoid the second error, i.e. trying to limit astrology into some predefined boxes such as science or art? Can we not avoid such arguments as whether astrology is art or science? Let us try to comprehend astrology in its true theoretical foundation. We must view science as science and art as art and must not mix up both. As the humanity is a quality of man that is not limited by class, creed, color, religion or caste, astrology is a subject that cannot be limited within the classifications such as science or art.

When I see the efforts of people to classify astrology into predefined moulds such as science or art, I am just feeling compassionate, because these classifications are unscientific and non-systematic. A relevant doubt is how to classify all the subjects under human study. The thought process of human mind can be broadly classified into two - 1) analytical 2) holistic. The astrologer refers to this duality using the words ooha-apoha, mathematicians use the words differentiation-integration and others use the technical term analytical approach - holistic approach. Whatever be the terms used, they point to the fundamental difference in the thinking approach. These are two different thinking methods. Most of the braches of knowledge we have today is the product of one of these approaches.

Science is the product of analytical approach. We used to say that science tries to study everything by dividing it into smaller and smaller parts. Science has its own method, based on analytical approach, termed Scientific method. Data collection, concept, formation, analysis, verification are the parts of it. A theory is the final output. Some of these theories may later proclaimed as true mirrors of knowledge or laws. Some of them on new data-input, either get refined or discarded. Thus, science is a continuous search for truth. Starting from small laws that control our daily life and not stopping in-between, it searches for a single law that comprehends everything to describe the whole. Some theories that are refined further and further, become stronger rationally and experimentally. These are proclaimed as laws that become the foundation of science to help or promote further study. Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology etc., are all branches of science. Mathematics, though does not follow the scientific method, has a systematic foundation and is a product of analytical approach. “Fact to generalization” is the prime motto of analytical approach. Nevertheless, holistic study method is an entirely different and worthy one.

The holistic approach has given raise to many branches of knowledge. Let us start from the most common example - i.e. Psychology. Psychology says that all the mental diseases, which may have even physical symptoms, are caused by unhealthiness of mind. In other words, Psychology finds its foundation in the concept called Mind. If we knew all about the processes in brain, nervous system, and the chemical reactions in brain and body, this concept of mind will not be necessary. We feel the Mind because of the combined and coordinated function of all these. Even though we cannot find the ‘Mind’ by subdividing the body in to its minutest parts i.e. by physical analysis, nobody will say that psychology is a useless subject. By using the classifications such as conscious-subconscious-unconscious, id-ego-superego (or the Indian classical division Chitta–buddhi-ahankara) we believe that psychology leads us towards truth. All the branches of knowledge that originate from the holistic method use one or more non-provable concepts as their foundation, which are accepted based on their usefulness. Psychology is no exception to that. The ancient Indians used the word ‘Sastra’ (ancient advice) to indicate such branches of study. Like Psychology that speaks about Mind, Ayurveda that speaks about Tridoshas or Vaatha-Pitha-Kapha, Homeopathy and Naturopathy that speak about Vital force, Astrology speaks about Planets and Signs. All are the products of holistic approach. In this sense subjects such as Psychology, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Naturopathy, Astrology etc., do not come under the broad classification called Science. Still we know that nobody will dare to say that Psychology, Ayurveda etc., are useless. In the view of our ancients, Sastras lead us to truth, help us to comprehend the truth more clearly and help us to know the truth that are useful for our existence. Astrology that depends on holistic approach is no exception to this. In this study-method called holistic approach, some basic concepts are formulated, to cover all our ignorance about the details and to help the further study. This hypothetical foundation becomes a springboard for further study. Here also, psychology can be taken as a suitable example. When we know 100% about the processes and behavior of brain and body, we understand which chemical reactions lead to each thought and emotion. Then we could clearly state how and where the memory is encoded, with its minutest details. When our knowledge grows that much and we attain the ability to control all these, using chemical and physical mechanisms (machine driven or otherwise), we can discard the concept of mind and psychology. Until then psychology will exist, despite whatever be the reaction of the scientists to it. Similarly, when we understand how the rhythm of time influences the living organisms and their life incidents (100% i.e. to its minutest details) astrology can be discarded. Until then, whatever be the opposing arguments, this branch of knowledge known as astrology is bound to prevail.

Even those who accept that Psychology, Ayurveda, Homeopathy etc., as holistic methods, tend to reject astrology. Why? They ask - “How can you say that astrology is based on a fundamental concept like Mind, Tridosha or Vital force, used by other branches of holistic approach? Can you consider the Sun, the Moon and the Planets as concepts? Signs such as Aries, Taurus are the divisions of sky. How can they be concepts? All those who sincerely study the ancient Vedic astrology know the answers to such questions.

Assume that we collect the common characteristics or life incidents of children born, when the Sun is in some particular sign. Instead of considering these characteristics as that of time, they are projected to the Sun. The Sun is considered the significator of all such characteristics. Later, when the Sun is in the same sign, when a child is born, we predict that, that the child will have those predefined or pre-collected characteristics. The technique is of projecting the characteristics to those that are not of the Sun to the Sun and later taking them back from the Sun. Here the Sun becomes not the Sun that we see with our naked eyes. The Sun becomes a concept. This Sun is the God Siva, father, gold, soul, courage, success, light, king, government, service, light, forest, peak, hill... and so on. Sun is man, middle-aged, bald, and the significator of diseases due to heat. All these ideas are formed thus. Not only the Sun, but also the Moon and the Planets become concepts in this way. Whatever is called significators in astrology, they are all concepts (Hypothetical constructions to mould the truth). Yes, in astrology, the Planets, Houses and Signs are called significators. Therefore, the Signs, Houses and Planets are the basic concepts used in the holistic study-method called astrology. Apart from this, some other basic concepts that are used by Vedic culture such as Panchabhootas (Earth-Water-Fire-Air-Sky), Trigunas (Satwa – Rajas – Thamas) etc., are also well utilized in astrology.

Of the two approaches such as analytical and holistic, Astrology and Ayurveda are closer to holistic approach. As these two methods, analytical and holistic, are fundamental to the thought process itself, why should they compete with each other? Why should the branches of study that are part of holistic approach try fruitlessly to become part of any science, a product of analytical approach? Even physics should resort to the use of concepts such as stress, strain, force, time etc. Ayurveda cannot stand away from the fact that the use of its methods should cure a patient. The world we see is composed of the facts and concepts, viz., matter and mind. Because of all these, the analytical approach that takes facts as the starting point and the holistic approach that takes concepts at the starting point should ultimately meet and help each other to the ultimate enrichment of human knowledge. They are like Yin and Yang, the opposing counter parts of the same thing. As both of them are the foundations of the thought-process itself, one defeating the other is impossible.

Even this classification such as analytical or holistic is not complete. We cannot bring all the subjects under the sun into this classification. As I mentioned earlier, all the classifications are nothing but the creations of human mind. The truth would remain outside all these classifications. In our case also, it will be true. (Just think of bringing subjects such as art and history into this classification.) A Vedic astrologer should be ready to approach astrology with such realizations, because astrology is a part of a holistic approach, to study the rhythm of time and make probabilistic predications.

Astrology Glossary

PLANETARY MOVEMENTS
The planets appear to move through the sky against the backdrop of the zodiac. And similarly, they seem to move around your horoscope, which is a snapshot or blueprint or map of the zodiac at the time you were born. As they move, they sometimes appear to slow down or accelerate and sometimes seem to stop totally. Planets like Mercury and Mars often seem to 'surge' forward into the next sign and slower ones, like Saturn, almost lumber. All planets except the sun and the moon can appear to move backwards. This is called retrograde motion. The effects are usually to slow down events and give you time to reflect on issues.

The PLANETS ARE:

The Sun - The Sun takes approximately one month to move through each sign of the zodiac. It reflects your personal destiny, goals, aims and vocation.

The Moon - Taking only a few days to move through one sign of the zodiac, the moon's cycle reflects your emotional reactions, needs and feelings. In your birthchart it describes what gives you a sense of belonging and safety.

Mercury - Fast moving but erratic, Mercury reflects your communication and the way you interact with others. It is also the planet of contradiction and paradox.

Venus - Venus describes what gives you pleasure, both in sexual relationships and in the world generally; Venus also reflects the kind of
people you are attracted to and who is attracted to you.

Mars - describes how you go after something you want. Your assertiveness, anger, will and ego. It reveals how you confront and compete in the world at large.

Jupiter - Often called the plaet of 'luck', Jupiter reflects both good and bad luck. Jupiter inflates situations, but is a catalyst for romance and excitement in your life. Jupiter takes about a year to move through one sig of the zodiac.

Saturn - reflects your boundaries and defence mechanisms. It takes approximately two years to move through one sign of the zodiac, so it's transiting influence is to structure and bring you down to earth in specific areas of your life depending on it's position in your chart.

Uranus - Unpredictable and radical, Uranus reflects sudden events, surprise encounters, electrifying chemistry between strangers. A slow moving planet, it takes approximately seven years to move through one sign of the zodiac, so it has a 'collective' and generational influence rather than a personal one.

Neptune - Again, an 'outer' planet which has a glamourising and confusing influence in the collective. Neptune casts illusions and romance over events and people and can confuse you about your true feelings.

Pluto - Transformative Pluto spends an erratic number of years in each sign, and again has a long-term generational influence. In your personal chart it can reflect power issues in intimate relationships, for good and bad.

RULING PLANETS
The planet which rules your chart is very important because it adds spice and flavour to your 'solar' journey. Every sign of the zodiac has a 'ruler' or a planet which becomes the henchman to your sun. The ruler of your chart is determined by which zodiac sign is rising (the ascendant) at the moment of birth.

Aries is ruled by MARS
Taurus is ruled by VENUS
Gemini is ruled by MERCURY
Cancer is ruled by the MOON
Leo is ruled by the SUN
Virgo is ruled by MERCURY
Libra is ruled be VENUS
Scorpio is ruled by PLUTO
Sagittarius is ruled by JUPITER
Capricorn is ruled by SATURN
Aquarius is ruled by URANUS
Pisces is ruled by NEPTUNE

ASPECTS
Aspects occur when there is a resonant dynamic played out between two planets in the sky - in other words in your horoscope. It appears as if they form an angle and the most important ones are called trines (120 degrees apart), conjunctions (when they appear to be in the same degree), squares (90 degrees apart), oppositions (180 degrees apart) and sextiles (60 degrees apart). Most astrologers allow an orb of up to 8 - 10 degrees for these aspects. Aspects to your sun and moon particularly add a very powerful combination of the energy and characteristics of the planets involved in the aspect.

HOUSES
There are twelves areas of the chart called houses, as there are twelve signs, but they don't necessarily correspond to each other. The chart is divided up into twelve unequal segments (although there is a House system called the Equal House system, just to confuse matters) to make up the complete horoscope of 360 degrees. As the planets move through the houses they emphasize different areas of your life which will be in focus or prominent at the time of the planetary transits.

THE PHASES OF THE MOON
The Moon's cycle lasts approximately 30 days as it appears to move round the zodiac. We usually notice the Full Moon because this is when the Sun is directly opposite the Moon and casts it's light onto the Moon's surface. The Moon only stays in one sign for about two or three days and transits your Sun and all the planets in your chart on a regular basis. The phases of the moon are: the New Moon, the First Quarter Moon, the Full Moon and the Last Quarter Moon. For example, a New Moon on June 29th in Cancer will be followed by a First Quarter moon a week later, then a full moon about one week later, a Last Quarter Moon a week after that, and another New Moon in Leo around the 29th July. The New Moon is a good time to start out on a new quest, and put the past behind you. The First Quarter Moon is about getting ahead, seducing, persuading. The Full Moon is a critical turning point when it's time to make decisions and face your true feelings or for completing what you set out to do under the New Moon. The Last Quarter Moon is for reflection, awareness of one's mistakes and for being realistic about your quest.

LUNAR/SOLAR ECLIPSES
These happen a few times every year and used to be considered bad omens by the ancients. Actually, they just bring into focus personal issues you need to confront or things which need attention or closure. A Lunar Eclipse is when the Earth gets in the way of the sun's light shining directly on the moon (usually a full moon). There appears to be a dark shadow moving across the Moon. The easiest way to remember what a Lunar Eclipse means is to say 'the present blots out the past' . (The moon is often associated with the past in astrology as the Earth is with the present). For example whatever issues you need to clarify in your current situation think about them and don't dwell on the past. A Solar Eclipse is when the moon gets in the way of the sun, so we can't see all of the sun, and in some places on earth we are plunged into darkness during the day. The easiest way to interpret a solar eclipse is to say 'the past blots out the future.' (The sun is associated with the future.) For example, there are things which you have denied, repressed or avoided in the past which now
need attention or bringing to light before you get on with your goals.

THE ELEMENTS
Each zodiac sign belongs to one of the four elements. It's useful to know them because signs that are of the same element usually have a great natural affinity for each other.

The element of Fire: Aries, Leo Sagittarius. The Fire signs are highly motivated, forward thinking visionaries.
The element of Earth: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn. The Earth signs are practical, realistic and build solid relationships.
The element of Air: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius. The Air signs are intellectual, rational and idealistic.
The element of Water" Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces. The Water signs are deeply connected to their feelings, instincts and intuition.
