If any two planets are opposite each other in the zodiac, then they are in Opposition . If any two planets are at 90 degree angles (Right Angles) to each other then they are Squared . When any two planes are at 60 degree angles to each other, then they are Sextile , and when they are 120 degrees apart they are Trine .
The effect of an aspect between two planets is strongest when the fastest planet reaches the exact angle of the aspect. However effects can be felt over several degrees (called the Orb ), depending on which planet is involved and on whether it is a major or a minor aspect.
The interpretation of aspects is based impart on how the planets fall into signs with similar or conflicting elements and qualities. For example, the square aspect has planets in the same quality, but conflicting elements (e.g., fire and water) while the trine aspect the planets are in the same element, but stimulated by different qualities.

Inharmonious aspects ("badly" aspected planets) introduce stresses, many of which can actually help you if you learn to deal with them. Neither harmonious or inharmonious, this aspect merges and intensifies the energies of two planets. Inner tension can arise if the planets have conflicting natures.
Sextile (60 degrees, two signs apart):
Harmonious aspect that helps energies flow toward attainment of your goals, provided you make some conscious effort to achieve them yourself.
Square (90 degrees, three signs apart):
Inharmonious aspect causing tensions and obstacles for you to overcome. It forces you to choose between you conflicting inner needs and urges.
Trine (120 degrees, four signs apart):

An Ancient and Honorable Science
The study of the planetary motion and its effect upon the human race has fallen by the wayside and a great deal of valuable information has been lost. What was once an honorable science has deteriorated to the level of a sophistocated parlor game for credulous people. Much of the confusion that is rampant in astrology today can be traced to the time when Napoleon went a warring down into Egypt. He landed near Alexandria on July l, l798 and while there one of his generals, one Louis Charles Antoine de Saix wandered up the Denderah Valley. There he discovered a carving on the ceiling of a temple. Word of this stupendous find trickled back to the homeland and scientists, astronomers and the merely curious flocked to the site.
There some confused or possibly ouzo soaked Greek took one look ast the carving and chortled the Greek equivalent of "Oh, Goody, Look at the Circle of Animals" and he called it Zodiacos. Because this carving was on a ceiling this misguided fellow thought it was a sky chart and he decided that he, too, would divide the sky into sections. This he did and he called them constellations from the word constellatus, meaning set with stars.
This gave rise to the much vaunted Greek system of astrology and to myriad systems of astrology, each less factual than the last.
Today we are inundated with information purporting to be astrology. Astrologers offer advice on everything from finding a mate to burying a loved one. We are told how to decorate, to educate, to diagnose and to heal. Astrological recipes can be found in many magazines. Advice to the lovelorn columns abound. It would be hard to find a subject that hasn;t been covered by people claiming to get their answers from the stars.
On the other hand we have the detractors, the most famous of them being the late Carl Sasgan who stated very seriously that precession invalidates astrology. Pure nonsense. A properly drawn astrology chart is measured from the revolution of the earth, not from its orbit. Precession has absolutely nothing to do with the turning of the earth. Other detractors were Bok and Jerome who wrote "Objections to Astrology" and conned a great many people into signing it. It is meaningless since none of them knew anything about the subject.
As the Earth turns its three hundred sixty degree revolution every twenty four hours, every two hours it brings to the eastern horizon a new thirty degree space. At the same time an old thirty degree space disappears below the western horizon. These twelve spaces and the planets and luminaries visible through each of these spaces at the moment of birth constitues the horoscope or birth chart. Hora means hour and scopus means watcher so the ancients who studied the ever changing panorama of the sky were called Watchers of the Hour.
The knowledge these patient watchers acquired was left for us in the carving found on the ceiling in Denderah.
It is called the Denderah Zodiac and is at present in the Louvre in Paris, France. This carving is not and was never meant to be a sky chart. It is the Egyptian Wheel of Life and it shows the nature of the the human being with
merciless clarity. It is held aloft by four tall athletic appearing figures to indicate that one third of the human race are Cardinals. They are the adventurers, the trailblazers, the pathfinders, the explorers who discover the new continents, the new lands.They find the uncut timber, the undug gold and the unplowed land and then they move on, forever seeking.
The circle is also held aloft by four kneeling figures wearing the headdresses and face masks of hawks. They are the Mutables. the dual signs. They are the busy active devisers of system and method. They follow after to bring order out of the chaos of the cardinals passing . They turn the raw mining and logging camps int viable villages and towns. They find a water supplyand designate a garbage dump, They elect a sheriff, build a jail and a gallows and find space for a boot hill cemetery. They find a suttler and open a trading post, find a cook and open a boarding house. In time they open a bar and import the dancing girls. They are the organizers.
The circle is also held aloft by four heavy hieroglyphic covered pillars to indicaste the Fixed sign people.
Later, much later, after much soul searing cogitation the reluctantly pull up their roots and carrying all that they can of their familiar and well loved possessions they follow after to put down the firm foundations and build the lasting cities and civilizations. They are the Builders and the Recorders of the deeds and accomplishments of their fellow humans for posterity.
The human race is again divided into categonies. They are the elements of Air, Earth, Fire and Water. Air sign people are the communicators of the owrld. They are the orators, the lecturers, the preachers,.the conversationalists and sometimes the gossips. In the event of an impending disaster they arrive upon the scene and immediately form a committee to discuss the probem and try to find a solution.
Earth sign people are the world's workers.They toil and moil and slave and labor and firmly believe that nothing can be accomplished without sweated labor. They arrive upon the scene of the impending disaster and immediately grab a shovel and start filling the sandbags to prevent the river from overflowing its banks or form a bucket brigade to bring water to put out the smoldering brush fire to prevent it turning into a raging conflagration.
Fire signs are the center stagers of the entire world population. They push, shove, elbow and gravitate to center stage where they seem to glow with an inner light. If they are relegated to the background and ignored they seem to lose their luster and become dull and colorless. They arrive upon the scene of the impending disaster and in true Archie Bunker fashion rush frantically around telling everybody else what to do making great efforts to be seen and noticed while they work on the, to them. secondary problem of the flooding river or the burning brushfire.
Water signs are the worlds thinkers. From their ranks come the Einsteins, the Burbanks and the brightest
people of every generation. When they arrive at the scene of the impending disaster it is with a well thought out plan for averting the worst effects and immediately put it into practice.
It is easier to understand people when you realize that everyone is a combination. They are Cardinal, Mutable or Fixed and they are Air, Earth, Fire or Water.

Each of the symbols currently in use as names for the astrological signs have a proper meaning that tells the story of the development of the human being. The first step in the development of the human being is conception and for that our wise ancestors drew a Scale of Balance to indicate that the human race is preprogrammed to stay in balance. It does not shoot up to become a race of giants nor does it dwindle down to become a race of midgets. Certain safeguards are built into the humanj psyche to ensure that this is true. Opposites attract. Tall people marry short people. Fat people marry skinny people. Blondes marry brunettes and the genius mentalities among us sometimes marry dummies. This keeps the race in balance. The second step in human development is birth and the nurturing process. For this the ancients drew a Mother and Child. Because this was confused with the Catholic Virgin Mother Mary and the Christ Child it has been dubbed Virgo, from the latin for virgin. It is a Mutable Earth Sign and it is ruled by our very own planet, Earth.
The third step is the Ego, the Id, the Life Force and for this the Ancients drew an arrogant, disdainful male lion. How better to portray this sign? It is the Fixed Fire sign and is ruled by the All powerful Sun, giver of all life. It is called Leo from the latin for lion.
It is well understood that without the life giving properties of the Sun the Earth can not produce life but without the nurturing qualities of the Earth the Sun can not sustain life. Without the Moon, trigger of the sex urges we would still be single celled organisms floating placidly upon the murky waters.
The fourth step is pictured by the creeping crawling, clutching, grabbing, sidling crab. How like baby when first he starts to navigate under his own steam. He creeps and he crawls. He falls and he wallows and he grabs everything he can reach. Life is a learning experience and baby is caught up in the wonder of it all. He looks and and he hears, he tastes and he smells and he touches. This step is the development of the senses of touch, sight, hearing, taste and smell and the mentality that controls them. It is the most acquisitive of all the signs and it is ruled by Mercury, the so called Messenger of the Gods. It is the Cardinal water sign. It is called Cancer from the latin for crab.
The fifth step is pictured by two children standing hand in hand to indicate the pure, innorcent, love affection and companionship known by children before the onset of puberty and the sexual and sensual urges. It is the Mutable Air sign and it is ruled by the gentle Venus. It has been called Gemini from the latin for twins.
The sixth step is pictured by the full grown bullock physically ready to take his place as the herd sire but without the necessary maturity. This is puberty with its stirred up hormones, and its unstoppable energy. This is often the risk taker who does things on impulse with no thought for the possible consequences. It is ruled by Mars, the planet of pure energy. It is the Fixed Earth sign and produces the strongest people and the hardest workers. It has been dubbed Taurus from the latin word for bull.
The seventh step is courtship and it is pictured by the Sleeping Ram to indicate that the sexual urges must be held in abeyance until the mate is found and the nest is ready. This sign has been called Aries from the latin for ram and is ruled by the Asteroids, or planetoids, bits and pieces of an exploded planet that once circled between Mars and Jupiter. It is the Cardinal Fire sign.
The eighth step is marriage and it is perfectly described by two fishes joined from tail to tail by a cord to indicate that the two partners must pull together or the weakest will be pulled willy nilly where the strongest would go whether down to the depths of degredation or up to the heights of ecstasy. Since marriage is the biggest, most important step anyone makes in a lifetime it is fittingly ruled by the jovial Jupiter, the giant of them all. This is the Mutable water sign and it has been called Pisces from the latin word for fishes.
After marriage comes Responsibility and thie is the nature of the ninth step. It is pictured by the Matriarch or Patriarch, the wise head of the tribe, the sect, the clan or the family. They are shown holding an aquamanale, an ewer or water jug for pouring out holy water in blessing on the fertile soil. This sign is ruled by the Somber Saturn, the planet that holds the nose to the grindstone of life and rewards and punishes in exact ratio to what is deserved. Saturn can bring untold suffering but it can also bring, late in life,t he greatest rewards. It is the Fixed Air sign and is called Aquarius from the latin word for water bearer.
The tenth step is pictured by an imposible creature, half fish and half goat. Since it would be impossible to breed this critter it has to have been invented. This is the nature of the tenth step. It is inventiveness. It is ruled by Uranus, the erratic, unusual, one of a kind planet that rolls around the heavens lying on its back. It produces individualistic people who are one step ashead of the latest thing. They are often thought a little mad by their fellow humans because they are always different..These Cardinals are hardworking Earth signs. They are called Capricorn from the latin for caper and goat.
The eleventh stelp is easy to understand if we look out across the far distant prairie and see a hunter, armed with a bow and arrows, mounted upon a galloping horse. The illusion is of one creature, half man and half horse. It is illusiion, delusion, imagination and creativity and is ruled by the mysterious Neptune, planet of illusion.This sign is called Sagittarius from the latin for Archer and is the Mutable Fire sign.
Thre twelfth step is pictured by a Scorpion, that tiny creature with the deadly sting in its tail. Strong men walk warily when this creature is about. It dwells in the bleak and arid deserts of the world and is totally self reliant. It is ruled by the tiny, far distant planet Pluto and produces individualistic people who are often cool and remote.

We are told how to decorate, to educate, to diagnose and to heal. Astrological recipes can be found in many magazines. Advice to the lovelorn columns abound. It would be hard to find a subject that hasn;t been covered by people claiming to get their answers from the stars.
On the other hand we have the detractors, the most famous of them being the late Carl Sasgan who stated very seriously that precession invalidates astrology. Pure nonsense. A properly drawn astrology chart is measured from the revolution of the earth, not from its orbit. Precession has absolutely nothing to do with the turning of the earth. Other detractors were Bok and Jerome who wrote "Objections to Astrology" and conned a great many people into signing it. It is meaningless since none of them knew anything about the subject.
As the Earth turns its three hundred sixty degree revolution every twenty four hours, every two hours it brings to the eastern horizon a new thirty degree space. At the same time an old thirty degree space disappears below the western horizon. These twelve spaces and the planets and luminaries visible through each of these spaces at the moment of birth constitues the horoscope or birth chart. Hora means hour and scopus means watcher so the ancients who studied the ever changing panorama of the sky were called Watchers of the Hour.

The circle is also held aloft by four kneeling figures wearing the headdresses and face masks of hawks. They are the Mutables. the dual signs. They are the busy active devisers of system and method. They follow after to bring order out of the chaos of the cardinals passing . They turn the raw mining and logging camps int viable villages and towns. They find a water supplyand designate a garbage dump, They elect a sheriff, build a jail and a gallows and find space for a boot hill cemetery. They find a suttler and open a trading post, find a cook and open a boarding house. In time they open a bar and import the dancing girls. They are the organizers.
The circle is also held aloft by four heavy hieroglyphic covered pillars to indicaste the Fixed sign people.
Later, much later, after much soul searing cogitation the reluctantly pull up their roots and carrying all that they can of their familiar and well loved possessions they follow after to put down the firm foundations and build the lasting cities and civilizations. They are the Builders and the Recorders of the deeds and accomplishments of their fellow humans for posterity.
The human race is again divided into categonies. They are the elements of Air, Earth, Fire and Water. Air sign people are the communicators of the owrld. They are the orators, the lecturers, the preachers,.the conversationalists and sometimes the gossips. In the event of an impending disaster they arrive upon the scene and immediately form a committee to discuss the probem and try to find a solution.
Earth sign people are the world's workers.They toil and moil and slave and labor and firmly believe that nothing can be accomplished without sweated labor. They arrive upon the scene of the impending disaster and immediately grab a shovel and start filling the sandbags to prevent the river from overflowing its banks or form a bucket brigade to bring water to put out the smoldering brush fire to prevent it turning into a raging conflagration.
Fire signs are the center stagers of the entire world population. They push, shove, elbow and gravitate to center stage where they seem to glow with an inner light. If they are relegated to the background and ignored they seem to lose their luster and become dull and colorless. They arrive upon the scene of the impending disaster and in true Archie Bunker fashion rush frantically around telling everybody else what to do making great efforts to be seen and noticed while they work on the, to them. secondary problem of the flooding river or the burning brushfire.
Water signs are the worlds thinkers. From their ranks come the Einsteins, the Burbanks and the brightest
people of every generation. When they arrive at the scene of the impending disaster it is with a well thought out plan for averting the worst effects and immediately put it into practice.

The second step in human development is birth and the nurturing process. For this the ancients drew a Mother and Child. Because this was confused with the Catholic Virgin Mother Mary and the Christ Child it has been dubbed Virgo, from the latin for virgin. It is a Mutable Earth Sign and it is ruled by our very own planet, Earth.
The third step is the Ego, the Id, the Life Force and for this the Ancients drew an arrogant, disdainful male lion. How better to portray this sign? It is the Fixed Fire sign and is ruled by the All powerful Sun, giver of all life. It is called Leo from the latin for lion.
It is well understood that without the life giving properties of the Sun the Earth can not produce life but without the nurturing qualities of the Earth the Sun can not sustain life. Without the Moon, trigger of the sex urges we would still be single celled organisms floating placidly upon the murky waters.
The fourth step is pictured by the creeping crawling, clutching, grabbing, sidling crab. How like baby when first he starts to navigate under his own steam. He creeps and he crawls. He falls and he wallows and he grabs everything he can reach. Life is a learning experience and baby is caught up in the wonder of it all. He looks and and he hears, he tastes and he smells and he touches. This step is the development of the senses of touch, sight, hearing, taste and smell and the mentality that controls them. It is the most acquisitive of all the signs and it is ruled by Mercury, the so called Messenger of the Gods. It is the Cardinal water sign. It is called Cancer from the latin for crab.
The fifth step is pictured by two children standing hand in hand to indicate the pure, innorcent, love affection and companionship known by children before the onset of puberty and the sexual and sensual urges. It is the Mutable Air sign and it is ruled by the gentle Venus. It has been called Gemini from the latin for twins.
The sixth step is pictured by the full grown bullock physically ready to take his place as the herd sire but without the necessary maturity. This is puberty with its stirred up hormones, and its unstoppable energy. This is often the risk taker who does things on impulse with no thought for the possible consequences. It is ruled by Mars, the planet of pure energy. It is the Fixed Earth sign and produces the strongest people and the hardest workers. It has been dubbed Taurus from the latin word for bull.
The seventh step is courtship and it is pictured by the Sleeping Ram to indicate that the sexual urges must be held in abeyance until the mate is found and the nest is ready. This sign has been called Aries from the latin for ram and is ruled by the Asteroids, or planetoids, bits and pieces of an exploded planet that once circled between Mars and Jupiter. It is the Cardinal Fire sign.
The eighth step is marriage and it is perfectly described by two fishes joined from tail to tail by a cord to indicate that the two partners must pull together or the weakest will be pulled willy nilly where the strongest would go whether down to the depths of degredation or up to the heights of ecstasy. Since marriage is the biggest, most important step anyone makes in a lifetime it is fittingly ruled by the jovial Jupiter, the giant of them all. After marriage comes Responsibility and thie is the nature of the ninth step. It is pictured by the Matriarch or Patriarch, the wise head of the tribe, the sect, the clan or the family. They are shown holding an aquamanale, an ewer or water jug for pouring out holy water in blessing on the fertile soil. This sign is ruled by the Somber Saturn, the planet that holds the nose to the grindstone of life and rewards and punishes in exact ratio to what is deserved. Saturn can bring untold suffering but it can also bring, late in life,t he greatest rewards. It is the Fixed Air sign and is called Aquarius from the latin word for water bearer.
The tenth step is pictured by an imposible creature, half fish and half goat. Since it would be impossible to breed this critter it has to have been invented. This is the nature of the tenth step. It is inventiveness. It is ruled by Uranus, the erratic, unusual, one of a kind planet that rolls around the heavens lying on its back. It produces individualistic people who are one step ashead of the latest thing. They are often thought a little mad by their fellow humans because they are always different..These Cardinals are hardworking Earth signs. They are called Capricorn from the latin for caper and goat.
The eleventh stelp is easy to understand if we look out across the far distant prairie and see a hunter, armed with a bow and arrows, mounted upon a galloping horse. The illusion is of one creature, half man and half horse. It is illusiion, delusion, imagination and creativity and is ruled by the mysterious Neptune, planet of illusion.This sign is called Sagittarius from the latin for Archer and is the Mutable Fire sign.
Thre twelfth step is pictured by a Scorpion, that tiny creature with the deadly sting in its tail. Strong men walk warily when this creature is about. It dwells in the bleak and arid deserts of the world and is totally self reliant. It is ruled by the tiny, far distant planet Pluto and produces individualistic people who are often cool and remote.
It is the Fixed Water sign and is called Scorpio from the latin for scorpion. It is the final sign before Death and heaven or hell, the Happy Hunting Ground, the Field of Reeds or reincarnation and the r eturn to this life to pay for the sins of the past or to reap the reward from past good deeds.
