Your Moon sign describes your private world, inner emotions, imagination, and instinctive responses. It’s also about everyday life, routines, and how you respond to things. Some experts say it describes your experience of your mother as well. Certainly, aspects to the Moon can often suggest the kind of relationship you had with her – or in predictive astrology describe events connected with her.

When you want to discover whether or not you’re compatible with a lover, friend, relative or colleague, both Moon signs can tell you quite a lot about how you’ll connect with each other emotionally. Since the Moon moves so rapidly through the zodiac, it will rarely be in the same sign as your sun sign. That can only happen when there’s a New Moon in the sky on the day of your birth. You can tell if there was a Full Moon on the night you arrived because the Moon will be in the opposite sign to your sun sign. The Moon through the signs:

ARIES
Your emotions are vibrant, spontaneous, and sometimes take you – and others- by surprise. You can fall in love in a heartbeat, and out of it again in the blinking of an eye. There is a fickle quality to this Moon sign at times, as if your feelings simply burn themselves out. Once you’ve focussed on someone you’ll usually push hard to get them, and you will often succeed. Some people find this exciting, others just feel overwhelmed and run away from you. Throughout your life you have the heart of a child with all its blessings, and all its challenges.

TAURUS
A sensual, loving Moon sign – but you certainly make them wait! Your feelings run deep, but are not easily released. You are cautious and measured because you know that once you are in love those feelings will last for a very long time. Restless types think you are a control freak, but in a long-term relationship you prove your worth, being loyal, loving, and eminently practical too. If there are aspects to Venus or Mercury you may be very musical. You respond well to beautiful environments, delicious food, and you’re often fond of perfume.

GEMINI
Did anybody say fickle? It’s an easy judgment to make. But actually you’re just changeable and easily bored. You may be wary of deep emotions, and prefer a light-hearted approach to life. This does not mean you are cold or unfeeling. Emotional types fascinate you in fact, although you always need an escape route – even if it’s only in your mind. You are perfectly capable of commitment to a relationship, but must find a partner who understands your need for space and mental stimulation. Learning to communicate your feelings helps you achieve happiness.

CANCER
You are oh-so-romantic, emotional, and make a devoted partner. Your emotions are deep and intense and you can rarely articulate them. Even when you succeed, you know in your heart it is impossible to express how you really feel. You like to take care of others, and whether you’re male or female have strongly maternal instincts. Remember to take it easy. Some people dislike or are afraid of your raw qualities. However, you – like Moon in Taurus – prefer to take your time in love, so avoiding heartache is perhaps easier for you than it might be for a more spontaneous type.

LEO
It’s all about shouting your love from the rooftops really. This may seem a little excessive, but you always mean it because your feelings are honest, clear, and dramatic. You may play the game of love in other ways, but your emotions are fiery and direct. Reserved, quiet types are terrified or embarrassed by you. Others find you exhilarating. You are demonstrative, and have an abiding need for affection and admiration from everyone you love. If it is missing, or withdrawn, you can feel very hurt. Like Moon in Aries, your affections are childlike – and some people may find this difficult to understand since it is not always immediately apparent.

VIRGO
You’re sometimes accused of being inhibited, but deep inside you’re discerning and shy. You like to do the right thing, and criticise or withdraw from others if they fail to understand this. You are very sensitive, but hide it well. Discord and arguments can provoke strange symptoms such as skin rashes, headaches, or upset stomach. You need privacy in your relationships, and an understanding partner who will be patient and wait for you to tell them what’s wrong. It’s sometimes hard for you to assert your needs because you don’t always know what they are.

LIBRA
Charming and adaptable on the one hand, lacking in heat and passion on the other….you have a sweet nature and a penchant for idealising your partner. You are romantic, but dislike the idea of being swept away by your feelings. You see the bigger picture and want it to be harmonious and peaceful. Obviously, it rarely works out that way. You know this, but it won’t stop you striving for that dream. You like to fantasise about your partner, imagining the perfect life together. You have to discover that disagreements are part of any relationship, and learn how to manage them.

SCORPIO
Your emotions are deep and intense, but you often hide them from yourself as well as hiding them from others. It’s a bit like a volcano – pressure builds up gradually, and will eventually erupt, but nobody knows what the trigger might be. In love you are consumed by passion, and seek to consume your partner too. It is operatic! Some people will respond with joy, while others will feel overwhelmed by such potent emotions. You can be prone to vengeful fantasies when crossed, but unless there are other indications in your chart it is unlikely you will ever act them out.

SAGITTARIUS
You are a great fantasist, with playful qualities and much warmth. Like the other fire sign Moons (Leo and Aries) you have an impatient emotional nature and enjoy openly expressing your affection, love, and desire. Sometimes, like them, you burn out quickly and lose interest. At others you find yourself ensnared by a more intense type and begin to feel claustrophobic. You need friends and lovers who understand your restless nature, and who allow you to withdraw from time to time. You are usually honest about your needs, but sometimes enthusiasm gets the better of you and you seem to mislead others.

CAPRICORN
You aim for balanced emotions, but unlike Moon in Libra you are a realist, a pragmatist, and usually in charge of your emotional world. When feelings occasionally overwhelm you, as they inevitably will, you lock down and fight to establish balance as soon as you can. You are fiercely loyal, but it takes a very long time before anyone gets under your skin or into your heart. Consequently, some people think you are a tad chilly or reserved and will accuse you of being stuffy or morose. Tumultuous affairs or love at first sight make you uncomfortable, although you may be tempted if you think the other person is as down-to-earth as you.

AQUARIUS
Your enthusiasms are quick to ignite, and can be obsessive for a short while. However, you are erratic and easily bored by anyone who fails to intrigue you intellectually or, indeed, anyone who seems too passionate or emotional. You like to establish a distance between yourself and your loved ones, and can use clever philosophical arguments to make them understand why you cannot lavish love and attention on them at all times. Your rational qualities can attract very emotional types who would like to crack your defences. However, they will never succeed. You are sociable and friendly to everyone, but one-on-one will always be a challenge.

PISCES
The Moon has a natural affinity for watery Pisces, producing deep emotions and much sensitivity to art, love, music and poetry. Your emotions are much like the tides of the sea, ebbing and flowing throughout the day and always very close to the surface. You can drift in a dream with the greatest of ease, failing to notice warning signs or challenge a partner or friend who is taking you for granted. You like to serve others, and make them happy. Your sensitivity means you pick up on others’ feelings and thoughts with ease, making you highly intuitive at times. Fellow water signs – Cancer and Scorpio – understand you best.
